Online Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) Overview:Log on to the Learning Zone using your Single Sign-On, Program: Special Education, Keyword: Online Functional Behavior Assessment.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) states that students with disabilities who exhibit behavior that impedes learning are entitled to timely and appropriate assessments intended to address the problem behavior through teaching. Additionally, the sunsetting of the Hughes Bill has resulted in an amended California Education Code to which the Division of Special Education has aligned the policy for assessing problem behavior. Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) replaces Functional Analysis Assessment (FAA) and becomes the assessment used to hypothesize the function of behavior. Behavior Intervention Case Manager (BICM) training is now obsolete and will be replaced with FBA training. All Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)/LAUSD SELPA certificated staff who work with students with disabilities as a direct or indirect service provider are required to take the Online Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) Overview course. The Online FBA Overview is a component of the training provided for District and charter personnel in the LAUSD SELPA to appropriately address problem behavior of students with disabilities. This course is available in the Learning Zone. All certificated special educators, service providers, and administrators are required to take the Online FBA Overview. Additionally, Bulletin 6269.0 states that all schools must have at least one full time staff trained to conduct FBA.
