School Mental Health

  • Clinic and Wellness Centers

    Program Description

School Mental Health Clinics and Wellness Centers services are possible, in part, through a unique inter-agency contract between School Mental Health and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH).  This contract is now in its thirtieth year. Services provided through SMH Clinics at LAUSD school sites and Wellness Centers encompass a public mental health approach. Our program strives to make mental health services accessible to students in need free of charge. Mental health services are provided by our highly trained clinic-based Psychiatric Social Workers (PSWs).

    Program Services

Outpatient mental health services provided at Clinics and Wellness Centers include individual, family and group therapy. PSWs are trained and certified in various evidenced-based practices to treat depression, anxiety, trauma, and disruptive behavior. Psychiatry services are also provided to students with full-scope Medi-Cal. The SMH Clinics and Wellness Centers Program utilizes a Mental Health in Communities (MIC) treatment model where clinic services may be provided to students at their school of attendance when families experience travel barriers. MIC is provided on a case-by-case basis after an initial assessment of various factors.
