The Region North Special Education Support team focuses on students with disabilities achievement in the least restrictive environment.  By providing resources for equity, collaboration, and excellence. Our work is guided by the LAUSD Strategic Plan: Pillar 1 - Academic Excellence: Rigorous and Responsive Academic Programs to Achieve Excellence for All.

Led by the Special Education Administrator, our special education team supports the schools’ needs including, but not limited to: High-Quality Instruction, Enriching Experiences, Eliminating Opportunity Gaps, and College and Career Readiness. Our mission is to provide leadership, guidance, and support to the school community in order to maximize learning for all students within an inclusive environment, so that each student will contribute to and benefit from our diverse society. Our team provides schools and IEP teams with technical assistance regarding: special education process, policies and procedures, sources of support and assistance, state and federal special education mandates.  Additionally, there are many facets of Special Education, such as, Psychological Services, Related Services, Private School support, Early Childhood Special Education, and Inclusion Program Support. The Region North Special Education Service Center team has extensive knowledge in special education assessments, IEP process, standards-based teaching and learning in support of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). We work with schools to implement strategies and professional development for core instruction, alternate curriculum, assessments, IEP process, behavior support, and transition services.

Our team understands the complexities of supporting students with disabilities to be successful during and beyond their academic careers. Each Community of Schools (COS) has an Administrator referred to as a Specialist, Special Education or LRE Specialist and an out-of-classroom teacher referred to as a Program Specialist, both of which are assigned to support the staff and families within their assigned COS. Members of our Special Education team have held a range of TK-12 positions, including general and special education teachers, coordinators, specialists and administrators. Together, we strive to provide cohesive services to all Region North staff, students, and families.
