Report on Improving Student Outcomes and Ensuring Rights – July 2020
The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Office of the General Counsel, Compliance and Performance Monitoring (CPM) Legal Services Team, published the “Report on Improving Student Outcomes and Ensuring Rights” (en Español) focused on equity, program accessibility, and provision of a free appropriate public education. The CPM team, led by Deneen Evans Cox, Chief Compliance and Performance Monitoring Counsel, reviewed the status of the District’s efforts during the 2019-20 school year toward improving outcomes and ensuring rights for students, including students with disabilities. This review included the District’s ongoing compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in addition to other legislation addressing student rights. Recommendations are provided for the District’s continued efforts in these areas.
