GENERAL INFORMATION
- The Pasadena Playhouse and The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) are pleased to offer a workshop that will introduce students to the art of lyric-writing while guiding them through the process of writing personal lyrics.
- Students are invited to discover the process of writing a song from beginning to end while learning to identify form and structure from various styles of music.
- A workshop will be provided for teachers to share with their students and will guide them through a self-expressive process to explore hopes, dreams, fears, and other creative ideas.
- By the end of the workshops, students will have completed their own lyrics and submit them for a selection process. Approximately 13-15 students will be chosen and paired with professional songwriters to begin a collaborative mentorship process which will result in a completed song with final lyrics and music.
- Once complete, their songs will be performed by professional artists in a virtual or in-person production.
- All selected students will have the opportunity to become members of ASCAP free of charge which will give them joint ownership over their material and access to ASCAP membership opportunities.
**No prior lyric-writing or music composition experience needed.
