    One-Time Transfers and Intra-District Permits

La traducción en Español llegará próximamente.

There are two primary methods for students to transfer to and from Zones of Choice schools: One-Time Transfers and Intra-District Permits. This page will explain the policies and specifics for both.

    One-Time Transfers

One-Time Transfers are transfers between schools within the same Zone. Any student attending a Zones of Choice school who wishes to transfer to a different school within that Zone must do so through the One-Time Transfer process.

The window for One-Time Transfers is open in March and April for the following school year. This is the only time that transfer requests between schools within a Zone will be considered. If your student wants to transfer to another school within the same Zone, make sure to set a reminder to contact our office in March to get the correct form.

In order for a One-Time Transfer request to be fulfilled, the student must fulfill the following criteria:

    • Good attendance - no more than 14 absences
    • Good grades - no failing classes
    • Good behavior - no major disciplinary actions

Additionally, as the name implies, a student may only transfer between schools within the same Zone once. Attempts to transfer back or to a third school within the Zone will be automatically denied.

While One-Time Transfer requests that fulfill the above criteria are usually accepted, it is ultimately up to the receiving school whether to allow the transfer.

  • Intra-District Permits

Intra-District Permits apply to transfers between schools that are not in the same Zone or residence area. If your student wants to attend a school outside their resident Zone or if they do not reside in a Zone and want to go to a school within a Zone, they must complete the Intra-District Permit process.

To initiate the permit process, contact the school your student currently attends and ask if they would be willing to grant a release for the student to attend a different school. If your student resides in a Zone but has not received a school assignment yet, our office will sign off in place of the current school. If they approve it, contact the school the student hopes to attend and ask if they would be willing to take your student. Once both ends sign off on the permit, your student's enrollment will be switched.

Unlike One-Time Transfers, permits can be processed year-round. However, you are encouraged to be as proactive as possible when attempting to get an Intra-District Permit approved, as circumstances can change quickly.

Do not pull your child out of school while waiting for a permit - absences will lower the chance the permit is approved.

You can find further information about Intra-District Permits along with a packet containing the relevant forms here.
