  • The Greening Index is a result of Superintendent Carvalho's 100-Day Plan Report - Los Angeles Unified is working to accelerate campus greening for students who lack access to the benefits of green spaces.

To ensure this is accomplished equitably, LAUSD developed a Greening Index that ranks schools to help identify which schools are most in need of greening resources. In ranking schools, the Greening Index takes into account the percentage of green space on a school campus, as well as a school's CalEnviroScreen score and Extreme Heat Temperature score. Elementary schools with less than 10 percent green space are designated as priority schools in the Greening Index.
