    		 Energy Conservation Goals:

     

    • Reduce energy use intensity 20% from 2013/2014 baseline by 2023/2024
    • Transition to 100% clean, renewable energy in our electricity sector by 2030 and in all energy sectors by 2040

    ​*Due to the COVID pandemic, LAUSD began running ventilation systems 24/7 to protect student and staff health. Before the pandemic, the District saw a 15% decrease in electricity use and a 5% decrease in natural gas use.

    Water Stewardship​ Goals:

     

    • Reduce water consumption by 20% from 2013/2014 baseline by the end of 2023/2024
    • Reduce the amount of potable water for non-potable use
    • ​Reduce groundwater pollution and replenish underground aquifers

    Since 2013/14, LAUSD has conserved 3,785,053,107 gallons of drinking water, which is enough water to fill over 7,724 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

    High-Performance Schools Goals:

     

    • Ensure a safe, healthy, and comfortable learning environment in energy and water efficient schools working with Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)

    2 CHPS Verified projects completed in 2023

    Campus Ecology Goals:

     

    • Remove 30% of asphalt paving to provide green schoolyards
    • Connect green spaces to STEAM learning
    • Increase permeable surfaces to encourage storm water infiltration
    • ​Reduce heat island effect

     

    Campus Ecology Progress:

     

    70 SEEDS gardens and 16 Outdoor Classrooms completed as of 2022/23

     
    59 campus Greening Projects underway as of 2023/24
    ​Over 100 Greening Projects planned to be completed by 2026

    • Work with industry leaders, innovators, utilities and municipal partners to identify and pilot emerging sustainability technologies

    7 Sustainability Emerging Technology pilot projects in development for 2022/23

    • Raise awareness about sustainability
    • Develop partnerships to provide experiential, place-based learning, and link sustainability with curriculum and workforce development
    • ​Encourage and celebrate sustainability leadership and school-based sustainability efforts

    162,756 MTCO2e (a measure of GHG emissions) were emitted in 2022/23​

    3% increase in GHG emissions in 2022/23 from 2013-14 baseline*

    *Due to COVID pandemic, the District ran ventilation systems 24/7 to help protect the health of students and staff. Prior to this pandemic period, the District saw a 13% decrease in emissions.
