AP Policy
LAUSD encourages open access — any student interested and motivated to enroll in an AP course, should be enrolled in an AP course. Schools may use a variety of methods to identify students with the potential to be successful in AP coursework, including student self-selection, the AP Potential Report based on PSAT results, and teacher/counselor recommendations.
District high schools continue their efforts to strengthen their instructional infrastructures and increase equitable access to challenging educational opportunities that prepare students for AP rigor. As recent AP exam data indicates, LAUSD high schools are steadily closing the AP participation gap through outreach efforts, including increasing awareness among students and parents about the availability and benefits of advanced coursework, including AP and other A-G courses.
