Welcome to Pupil Services & Attendance
Mission
Our mission is to ensure that all LAUSD students are enrolled, attending, engaged, & on track to graduate.
Our department utilizes a data-driven approach to attendance, to identify where prevention and early intervention are needed. We utilize a three-tiered model (prevention, early intervention, and intensive intervention) to improve individual and system-wide student attendance, engagement, achievement and graduation.
Our counselors are child welfare and attendance advocates who work directly with students who experience difficulties in achieving their academic potential due to social/emotional, home and community barriers. PSA Counselors support students' academic, social-emotional, and career development by improving student attendance. Why School Attendance Matters:
Every school day counts in you’re a student’s learning journey. When children miss school—even 1 or 2 days a month—it can add up to lost learning time and make it harder for them to keep up with their classmates.
Regular attendance helps your students build strong academic skills and develop the routines and habits they’ll need to succeed in school and life.
Your support in making school a daily priority can make a lifelong difference.
What is Excellent School Attendance:
Prioritizing School Attendance Leads to Excellent Attendance
- Being present every day
- Arriving on time
- Closely monitoring absences to ensure that students do not miss more than seven days throughout the academic year. This practice helps keep them on track and guarantees they do not miss vital academic instruction.
- Communicating with the school regularly.
-
Maintaining excellent attendance is essential for the academic success of all students throughout the school year. This means being present at school every day and arriving on time. If a student must be absent, it is important for parents and guardians to monitor those absences, ensuring that the total does not surpass seven days during the academic year.
