About Us
The Musical Instrument Repair Shop, under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Branch, has been providing musical instrument repair service district wide since the 1960's. Currently twelve people work at the shop, which is responsible for maintaining and repairing thousands of music instruments on a yearly basis, some of which have been in Los Angeles schools since the 1950s.
This shop is composed of four distinct instrument repair departments:
The Music Shop also provides housing and services to the Arts Education Branch - Elementary Orchestra Program, and Beyond the Bell Branch - Music/Entertainment Education Program. The Elementary Orchestra Program is responsible for allocating about 50,000+ musical instruments on a yearly basis to various elementary schools. The Music/Entertainment Education Program is responsible for an array of performance groups, including the All City Band. Since 1973, during December, this shop prepares the District's silver-plated marching instruments that come out of storage precisely once a year, when the All City Band - comprised of some of the district's best musicians - plays them in the Rose Parade.
