Tax season is upon us and cyber attackers are busier than ever! The IRS has seen a surge in online scams directed at taxpayers. Please keep in mind these tips to protect your identity and information:
- Be vigilant against any emails, text messages, calls, or fake websites claiming to be the IRS, LAUSD payroll, or other government agencies.
- Be cautious when giving out any personal or financial information and never click on links or attachments from suspicious or unknown emails
- Never use public or unsecured Wi-Fi when filing your taxes or filling out personal information
- To make your LAUSD account more secure, contact ITD Helpdesk at 213-241-5200 to enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA)
If you think you are a victim of tax or W-2 fraud, please follow these steps:
- Report tax fraud straight to the IRS: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/how-do-you-report-suspected-tax-fraud-activity
- Report phishing emails on Outlook using tips found at https://www.lausd.org/phishing
- Notify Payroll Customer Services at 213-241-2570 or payrollsupport@lausd.net for dissemination of appropriate warning to other employees
