Opportunities to Get Involved

Our Urban Wildlife Week event website highlights a number of ways schools may choose to become involved in Urban Wildlife Week and P-22 Day.

Ideas include:

  • SCHOOL ORGANIZED BIOBLITZ: Schools may choose to organize a wildlife survey of their school campus. The iNaturalist App, available upon request through the LAUSD App Catalog, is one way to survey wildlife. Having students keep a wildlife journal is another. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County's Teacher Resources page has many ideas and resources. Additionally, the Museum's Citizen Science website highlights several of the Museum's biodiversity projects.

  • TASKS OF THE DAY: Our Urban Wildlife Week event website has a link to several content-specific "Tasks of the Day." These short activities can be used to make connections to urban wildlife.

  • LESSON PACKS: NWF's Eco-Schools USA has created a number of "Lesson Packs" for schools. Feel free to check them out on our Urban Wildlife Week event website!

  • STEAM CONNECTIONS: Foss, Benchmark, My Math, and NGSS@NSTA all provide lessons that connect nicely to the events of Urban Wildlife Week and P-22 Day. Please explore the options provided on our Urban Wildlife Week event website.
