Los Angeles Unified Reports Attendance, Contract Negotiations Resume (01-17-19)

Today, 83,928 students attended Los Angeles Unified’s 1,240 elementary, middle and high schools as UTLA returned to contract negotiations. This represents a 37% decrease from yesterday’s attendance. Today’s attendance number is incomplete because 10 schools have yet to submit reports through Los Angeles Unified’s internal attendance system.

The adjusted number of students who attended school yesterday is 134,724. This number may still be subject to adjustment based on additional reporting.

Total gross revenue lost for the four days of the strike is $97 million based on attendance numbers reported. Below is a chart that outlines additional data about Los Angeles Unified’s operations during the UTLA strike.

Today was the first day of negotiations since UTLA rejected Los Angeles Unified’s latest offer on January 11, 2019. Los Angeles Unified remains committed to working around the clock to find a solution that ends the strike.
