Los Angeles Unified Welcomes Back Palisades Charter ES and Marquez ES Students and Families (1-15-25)

Los Angeles, CA (Jan. 15, 2025) – Los Angeles Unified welcomed back students, families, and employees from Palisades Charter Elementary and Marquez Charter Elementary, who have been displaced by the Palisades Fire, to their relocated schools – Brentwood Science Magnet Elementary and Nora Sterry Elementary, respectively.

For a community that has experienced unimaginable turmoil and upheaval, today’s return represented a momentous return to normalcy.

There remain 7 schools that reside in evacuation zones, and they have been temporarily relocated to alternate sites for the rest of this week:

• Topanga Elementary to Woodland Hills Academy

• Canyon Charter Elementary to Brockton Elementary School

• Kenter Canyon Elementary to Emerson Middle School

• Lanai Road Elementary to Portola Middle School

• Roscomare Road Elementary to Warner Elementary School

• Community Charter Magnet to Westwood Elementary School

• Paul Revere Middle to University High School Charter

A meal distribution site continues to be available for these communities at Webster Middle School from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

We understand that students, families, and employees are still impacted by the ongoing fires and wind and may not be able to attend school or work. However, the District is providing sites, alternatives, and support for families and employees.

Thanks to everyone who has made this week possible – District employees who cleaned schools and campuses, teachers who returned to classrooms, classified and certificated substitutes who helped provide coverage for displaced employees, the countless individuals who have been working around the clock, school police first responders, and local authorities who ensured the safety of our school communities. Through their efforts, the District was able to restore regular school schedules and instruction.
