Scott M. Schmerelson Elected to Lead Los Angeles Unified Board of Education with Dr. Rocio Rivas as Board Vice President
Los Angeles (December 10, 2024) – The Los Angeles Unified School Board has elected Scott M. Schmerelson as President to lead the District for the upcoming school year, along with Dr. Rocío Rivas to serve as Vice President.
Scott M. Schmerelson, a retired teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal, represents Board District 3 which encompasses 105 schools in the San Fernando Valley, and will lead with all board members to ensure the safety and success of all students.
“I am honored to be chosen to lead this board and this District,” Board President Scott M. Schmerelson said. “I thank my colleagues for their support. In a time of uncertainty for many families, I want to reassure everyone that they always have a place in our schools. My commitment to Los Angeles Unified is unwavering, and my fellow board members and I will continue to work diligently to ensure that our students can learn in a supportive environment, our staff members can work productively, and our entire community takes pride in being part of Los Angeles Unified.”
