Downtown Magnets High School Earns the Prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools Award

Los Angeles, CA (Sept. 19, 2023) – Los Angeles Unified celebrates Downtown Magnets High School, the recipient of the 2023 Blue Ribbon Schools Award. This national recognition, bestowed by the U.S. Department of Education, highlights Downtown Magnets High School’s unwavering commitment to accelerating success, academic excellence and providing a top-tier education to its students.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program, established in 1982, recognizes public and private K-12 schools across the United States that demonstrate superior academic achievement and remarkable improvements in student outcomes. Downtown Magnets High School joins an elite group of educational institutions that have exemplified excellence in education.

“Congratulations to Downtown Magnets High School on this momentous achievement for your school community and all of Los Angeles Unified,” Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said. “The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exemplary educational opportunities Downtown Magnets High School offers to our students and families.”

Downtown Magnets High School offers a diverse and engaging curriculum that prepares students for success in higher education and the workforce. The school's dynamic faculty and staff are dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity and personal growth.

“My heartfelt congratulations go out to the Downtown Magnets High School community for earning the distinguished 2023 National Blue Ribbon School Award,” Board President Jackie Goldberg said. “Your dedication to academic rigor, inclusivity, and community engagement sets an inspiring example for schools across our district, and now, the nation.”

“A big congratulations to the 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools for their work toward this prestigious award,” Board Vice President Scott M. Schmerelson said. “This award is for our students, teachers, administrators, and families that make this school a great place to learn. While all our schools work hard, I am happy to see this school gain national recognition and hope that others will follow in their footsteps.”

We have seen first-hand the positive impact of Downtown Magnets with one of our own BD7 teammate’s daughter graduating in 2023 and enrolling at a UC this fall.”
