Statement from the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education on Hiring Susan Stengel as Next Inspector General

LOS ANGELES (August 30, 2022) – We are pleased to announce the hiring of Susan Stengel as the District’s next Inspector General, effective December 1, 2022. Ms. Stengel is the first woman to serve in this role, and brings more than 12 years of experience leading oversight efforts to enhance the accountability, transparency and integrity of large, complex, high-profile organizations.

Ms. Stengel has previously served in three inspector general offices – most recently as the independent assessor for the Los Angeles City Fire. She began her career as a deputy public defender for Los Angeles County after earning a Juris Doctor degree and a Master of Arts in Communications Management from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree from University of California, Santa Barbara.

The Office of the Inspector General is the District’s top internal watchdog department, promoting greater accountability and effectiveness through its independent audit and investigative services.
