In a Provisional Permit to Intern Credential route to teaching, you would teach using a Provisional Permit (Provisional Internship Permit or a Short Term Staff Permit.) The permit is good for one academic year, during this year of teaching you would ensure you meet the CTC Subject Matter Requirement and enroll in an intern credential program.

Provisional Internship Permit (PIP)*

Minimum Requirements to apply:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited university/college
• Meet the CTC Basic Skills Requirement – Your Bachelor’s degree meets this requirement
• Hold 18-20 semester units or equivalent with a grade of C or better in one of the following areas – Art, Music, Dance or Theatre

*The Provisional Intern Permit is a one time, once in a lifetime permit. It cannot be renewed.

Short-Term Staff Permit (CL-858)**

Minimum Requirements to apply:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited university/college
• Meet the CTC Basic Skills Requirement – Your Bachelor’s degree meets this requirement
• Have a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited university/college with a major in one of the following areas – Art, Music, Dance, Theatre

**The Short-Term Staff Permit is a one time, once in a lifetime permit. It cannot be renewed.

University Internship Pathway

University Intern Pathway

Minimum Requirements to apply:

• You are currently enrolled in an approved intern program with a university program with an LAUSD Intern Agreement and completed all pre-service requirements at the university (usually a semester)
• Meet the CTC Basic Skills Requirement – Your Bachelor’s degree from a regionally meets this requirement
• Meet the CTC Subject Matter Requirement by having a major match degree in or passage of the CSET (California Subject Examination for Teachers) in one of the following Art, Music, Dance or Theatre
• Meet the US Constitution Requirement by passing an examination or having completed a college level course covering the US Constitution
  *NOTE: If you have graduated from a CSU, you have met this requirement through coursework requirements for graduation
