Google Web App Activity Lawsuit
This responds to your inquiry regarding the notification received regarding a class action lawsuit against Google, LLC (Rodriguez et al. v. Google, LLC, 3:20-cv-04688-RS). This lawsuit, which does not include LAUSD as a party and is not specific to LAUSD Google account holders, involves both enterprise and personal Google email accounts. In addition to personal accounts, such notifications may have been received by the holders of certain student @mymail.lausd.net Google accounts.
In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs claim that Google unlawfully accessed users' devices and data, including app activity data, even when the “Web & App Activity” (WAA) and “supplemental Web & App Activity” (sWAA) settings were turned off or paused. The period in question is from July 1, 2016, to September 23, 2024.
