Leaders with high staff attendance monitor and report attendance data, properly designate absences, and make changes based upon attendance data.

Strategies:
- Require that all employees report absences directly to their immediate supervisor or site - administrative designee.
- Train employees and time reporters regarding how to accurately report protected leaves (e.g., FMLA, CFRA, Kin Care) and ensure that employees provide medical documentation for absences for more than 5 consecutive working days.
- Share staff attendance rates with individual employees.
- Post your staff attendance rate and share it publicly at staff and other stakeholder meetings (parents, students, community).
- Pay specific attention to temporal patterns of staff absences, including absences before and after weekends and/or holidays. Develop plans to reduce unprotected absences as appropriate.
