How To Guidance: Click on the resources above for guidance on how to use the TK-K standards alignment document to determine progress report marks and suggested progress report connections to the TK-K alignment doucement/Preschool Learning Foundations. See how the California Preschool Learning Foundations Volumes 1, 2, and 3 provide useful examples of student behaviors and work for each TK content standard.

Information regarding ELD and the ELD developmental levels are provided. For the entire ELD Chapter 2 document, click here.

N/A is not an option in the TK progress report. The TK progress report is designed to note a student's developmental level at this time- What skills has the student come to school with? Where is the student based on experiences the child has had whether formal instruction or not? The progress report is a tool to help parents understand the developmental continuum a young child goes through in the different domains and help teachers and parents consider what instruction and experiences would be helpful to support the child in his/her developmental next steps.

Integrated Learning Centers: Independent learning centers provide teachers the opportunity to observe and interact with children as they apply their understanding of and build awareness of the Preschool Learning Foundations. For example students may be engaged in the block area building a community highway with ramps where they explore how different objects move, their speed, the direction the objects move in, the distance they go. Students can be sorting and charting in a graph which objects are faster or slower. Finally you may hear students discuss what characteristics (texture, shape, size) make the object go faster or slower, farther or shorter distances. This one center provides children with the opportunity to develop skills in an integrated and developmentally appropriate play-like manner. Preschool Learning Foundation domains addressed in this one example: Physical Science, Math, Language and Literacy, Social Emotional Development.

Collecting evidence of student development: There are multiple ways to monitor and identify what skill level the student is working at: observations with notes, portfolios, pictures of student engaged in learning centers, student "writing" samples which includes drawing and dictation, curriculum assessments... Please see the Ready to Advance Assessment Guide for srtategies and guidance on how to monitor student development. (Log into Benchmark Universe, select your program Ready to Advance, click on Assessments.)
