PREPARING FOR COLLEGE

The Scholastic Aptitude Test, created by the College Board, is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The idea is to provide colleges with one common criterion that can be used to compare all applicants. The exam is given 7 times per year with a duration of 3 hours and 50 minutes. There is a math section, evidence reading and writing section with an optional essay. Use the links below to access pertinent SAT sites:

The ACT is a nationally administered, standardized test that helps colleges evaluate candidates. Students are encouraged to take the ACT for the first time during the Spring of their junior year, which will allow for enough time to retake the test during the fall of the senior year to improve his/her score. Without the optional Writing Test, the ACT exam lasts 2 hours and 55 minutes—or 3 hours and 35 minutes with the Writing Test.
