EDST requires school site administrators to demonstrate knowledge and ability to capture high quality and objective evidence of teaching practice. Throughout the year, Professional Learning and Leadership Development offers 5-day Observer Certification training to prepare administrators to observe, support, and evaluate teaching practice. To ensure continued inter-rater reliability in observation of teaching practice, annual summer calibration events are scheduled for directors, principals, and assistant principals.
Administrators participate in a calibration activity to deepen their understanding of the
LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, review the evaluation process, including tools, resources, and timelines, and complete a certification assessment. Administrators may improve their performance level on the accuracy of ratings measure, as well as use a common video to practice their observation skills. These events have been scheduled in partnership with local district leadership.
