• The Principal of the Year Program (POY) honors principals who demonstrate a strong commitment to their students, schools, and communities.

    Fifteen exceptional principals from Los Angeles Unified have been selected as finalists to represent their schools and regions, with the opportunity to become the 2026 Los Angeles Unified Principal of the Year. The Los Angeles Unified Principal of the Year fosters a culture of continuous improvement and high performance by engaging all stakeholders to create a respectful school learning environment that addresses the intellectual, linguistic, cultural, social-emotional and physical needs of all students.

    The Principal of the Year will serve as the ambassador for Los Angeles Unified and the school leadership profession.

2026 PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR

Any LAUSD employee, parent, or student may submit a nomination.

To be eligible a principal must:

- Have completed five (5) full years as a principal, though not necessarily in the same school.

- Cultivate an environment that respects and celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion among staff and students.

- Demonstrate evidence of significant contributions to the well-being of the school community.
