LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Unified is concerned by reports of immigration enforcement activity near one of our elementary schools this morning that resulted in an individual being detained shortly after student drop-off. Schools must remain safe and welcoming places for all students and families, free from fear and disruption.
The presence of enforcement activity near a school community can cause significant emotional distress for children, families and staff, regardless of immigration status. Our priority remains the well-being, safety and emotional support of every student in our care.
Los Angeles Unified does not participate in immigration enforcement, and District schools will continue to follow established protocols that protect student rights and privacy under state and federal law. Mental health and counseling supports are being made available for impacted students and staff.
We stand with our immigrant families and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring every child can attend school safely, supported and ready to learn.
