LOS ANGELES --- LAUSD Board President Scott M. Schmerelson sponsored a resolution to recognize California Adult Education Week that was co-sponsored by Board Vice President Dr. Rocio Rivas and passed unanimously by the board.
The resolution commemorates the hard work and dedication of the staff within the Los Angeles Unified Division of Adult and Career Education and underscores the District’s efforts to provide students with career options after high school graduation.
Adult Education programs are among the most popular choices for students after high school. They are even more popular for those who have been out of school for some time and are seeking more opportunities,” said LAUSD Board President Scott M. Schmerelson. “The Division of Adult and Career Education would be nothing without our amazing teachers who are helping students jump-start their careers. Some of our students have just finished high school, others have been met with hardship and are trying to turn their lives around. The service that our adult education teachers provide is more than just a curriculum. It is offering hope.”
“Our adult education programs open doors to careers, citizenship, and new opportunities. They change lives every day,” Acting Superintendent Andrés E. Chait said. “This week is a recognition of the determination of our adult learners and the educators who support them every step of the way.”
“Adult education opens doors for parents, workers, and community members who are striving for something more," said Board Vice President Dr. Rocío Rivas. "When we invest in adult learners, we strengthen families, our workforce, and our entire city."
“Education has the power to transform lives at any age. California Adult Education Week celebrates the vital role adult schools play in empowering families, strengthening communities, and opening pathways to opportunity,” said Board Member Sherlett Hendy Newbill.
“Happy California Adult Education Week,” said Board Member Karla Griego. “This week, we uplift the valuable pathways that adult education provides by supporting lifelong learners and offering skills-building opportunities that open the doors for our communities.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate California Adult Education Week and proud to support these programs, which are an important component of the District’s educational offerings,” said Board Member Nick Melvoin. “From a comprehensive menu of workforce training options, to diploma and certificate completion, English as a Second Language classes, and more, these are valuable programs that support our lifelong learners at any stage of their journey.”
“It is always a special moment to visit the adult schools in BD7 and witness the dedication of our students who are investing in their futures through training to enter into sustainable careers,” said Board Member Tanya Ortiz-Franklin. “This Adult Education Week, I want to take a moment to shout out our students for their passion and honor the incredible staff who make it all possible. You show up every day with purpose and heart, making a difference in the lives of our students.”
“Adult Education is a transformative opportunity for students and for their families,” said Board Member Kelly Gonez. “I’m excited to recognize Adult Education Week and to thank our educators for their dedication and support of our adult students.”
