LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Unified School District remains focused on preventing a strike while simultaneously preparing in the event one takes place, as negotiations continue with our labor partners.
As a District committed to our students and families, Los Angeles Unified is prioritizing clear and timely communication during this period.
Preparation for a Potential Work Stoppage
Los Angeles Unified has developed comprehensive contingency plans to ensure students and families continue to receive critical support. These plans include:
- Food distribution sites for students and families
- Continuity of Learning resources, including take-home instructional materials and access to online learning
- Community-based child care and supervision options
- Mental health resources to support student and family well-being
- Technology support for devices and connectivity
The District is also coordinating with partners across Los Angeles to ensure families have access to community-based resources and support services.
A dedicated website with these resources and ongoing updates is now available at: SchoolUpdates.lausd.org
An informational video on Family Support and Resources is also available.
Negotiations Ongoing to Prevent a Strike
The District remains committed to reaching agreements that support employees while also protecting the long-term financial stability of the District.
Avoiding a strike will require all parties to continue engaging in good-faith negotiations and working toward a solution that is fair and sustainable. To date, the District has reached agreements with five of its eight labor partners and is prepared to work around the clock to reach agreements with teachers, administrators, and service workers.
During spring break, the District met with the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA), and Trades labor partners, successfully reaching an agreement with Trades. The District has made extensive efforts to responsibly respond to labor partners’ proposals, and its offers remain among the most generous in the State.
The District continues meeting with labor partners this week and remains available to meet until agreements are reached with all groups. For the latest updates, families and staff are encouraged to visit the District’s Labor Updates webpage.
The District will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.
