LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Unified is pleased to announce that on Tuesday, March 31, the District reached tentative agreement with the Los Angeles/Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council on the 2025-2028 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
This agreement includes the following:
- 4% wage increase for 2025-26
- 4% wage increase for 2026-27
- Economic reopener to negotiate additional increases in 27-28
- Doubling of longevity pay rate
- Increases to tuition reimbursement and daily rates for use of personal vehicles
- Annual attendance incentive
- Paid release time to prepare for future negotiations
“We appreciate the work of all of our skilled trades colleagues in creating physical environments conducive to learning and working,” Acting Superintendent Andrés E. Chait said. “These professionals support our students and workforce every day through maintenance, vital repairs, and enhancements of our schools and offices.”
"We are thrilled to have reached a tentative agreement on this new three-year contract," Executive Secretary of the LA/OC Building & Construction Trades Council Ernesto Medrano said. "This agreement ensures our members at LAUSD are compensated fairly, and we're excited to work in partnership with the district to expand safety conditions and continue to provide a safe and protected workplace."
"I am happy to see that LAUSD and the Los Angeles/Orange County Building and Construction Trades could come to an agreement on collective bargaining,” Board President Scott M. Schmerelson said. “I have seen this partnership develop over the years and know this will bring a great benefit to our students, staff, and schools while also valuing the work of the LA/OC Building Construction Trades members.”
“This tentative agreement reflects our respect for our Building and Construction Trades partners and the essential work they do to support our schools,” Board Vice President Dr. Rocío Rivas said. “It also underscores the importance of continued good faith bargaining across all tables so we can reach fair agreements that support our educators, staff, and students while avoiding disruption to our school communities.”
"Building and Construction Trades professionals play a critical role in ensuring that our students learn in safe and well-maintained environments," Board Member Sherlett Hendy Newbill said. "Reaching this tentative agreement demonstrates what is possible when we engage in collaborative, good faith negotiations and reflects our shared commitment to investing in the people who make our schools strong."
"From HVAC technicians to carpenters, our Skilled Crafts employees are essential to maintaining safe, dignified learning and working environments for our students and staff," Board Member Karla Griego said. "Our agreement with the Trades Council affirms our commitment to recognizing, valuing, and investing in the critical labor of the tradespeople who sustain our schools every day.
“This tentative agreement marks an important step forward with our Building and Construction Trades,” Board Member Tanya Ortiz Franklin said. “I’m deeply grateful for our dedicated painters, plumbers, electricians, and laborers who bring our school projects to life, ensuring safe, high-quality learning environments for all. With five of eight contracts settled, I am hopeful that we will find agreement with our remaining three labor partners.“
