Scott M. Schmerelson Elected as Los Angeles Unified School Board President for a Second Term
Los Angeles (Dec. 17, 2025) - A longtime public educator and advocate, Scott M. Schmerelson was elected to serve as Los Angeles Unified Board President for a second year. Mr. Schmereslon has been a teacher, counselor, vice principal, and principal in various areas throughout the district and continues to set the board's direction in collaboration with his fellow board members, district staff, students, and stakeholders.
“I am very honored to have been elected LAUSD Board President for a second year,” said Board President Scott M. Schmerelson. “As Board President, I will continue to uphold the tradition of ensuring that all my colleagues on the board are heard so that we may better serve our communities throughout Los Angeles. I understand the responsibility placed upon my shoulders, but I am more determined than ever to ensure this district’s success and safety. I thank my board colleagues for entrusting me with this responsibility.”

Board President Scott M. Schmerelson represents 105 schools in the San Fernando Valley. The communities of schools under his representation are Canoga Park/ Chatsworth, Cleveland, Kennedy/Northridge Academy High School, Monroe, Reseda, Taft, and Hollywood.
