LOS ANGELES (Sept. 30, 2025) – Today, Los Angeles Unified announced the opening of the CHOICES application for the 2026-2027 school year, providing families the opportunity to apply for a wide range of specialized programs designed to meet students’ diverse interests, talents, and learning needs. The application window for the 2026-2027 school year opens on October 1.

Through the CHOICES application, students can explore several pathways including STEM, arts, career technical education, and more. Families can apply to:

  • Magnet Programs – innovative, theme-based schools that promote academic excellence and diversity.
  • Multilingual Multicultural Programs – programs that foster bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) – programs that provide enriched and accelerated instruction for academically gifted learners, including Individualized Honors Programs and Single Gender Academies like Girls Academic Leadership Academy and Boys Academic Leadership Academy.
  • Affiliated Charter Schools – offering unique educational approaches while remaining part of LA Unified.
  • Early and Middle College Programs – programs located on the campus of local community colleges and designed to expand college access and success.

Transportation may be available for students residing within L.A. Unified boundaries, ensuring equitable access to these educational opportunities across the district.

“CHOICES is about ensuring every family has access to the right fit for their child,” Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said. “Whether it’s a magnet focused on science, a dual-language program, or a school designed for advanced studies, we want families to feel empowered to select the pathway that best supports their child’s passions and goals.”

Families are encouraged to review program options and apply online at https://choices.lausd.net.
