Los Angeles Unified Launches New Evening School Bus Service
New Service Will Ensure Equitable and Safe Access To In-Person After-School Tutoring
Los Angeles, CA (Jan. 9, 2023) – To ensure equitable access to after-school tutoring, Los Angeles Unified is launching a new evening transportation service for students at the Young Empowered Scholars Academy. Beginning January 9, this new service will safely transport students back to their home once their in-person after-school tutoring session concludes, providing families with a safe and reliable mode of evening transportation for their child. This service will be expanded to additional schools across the District in the coming weeks based on academic need.
“Our students should have access to tutoring without the burden of orchestrating transportation back home,” Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said. “With this new service, Los Angeles Unified families will have access to after-school tutoring with the assurance that their child will be given safe transportation back home. These efforts reaffirm our commitment to providing targeted academic support to our students.”
This new transportation service aligns with Los Angeles Unified’s 2022-26 Strategic Plan, ensuring that all students have equitable access to tutoring at school with programs designed to eliminate opportunity gaps. Students who may have experienced difficulty securing evening transportation for after-school tutoring will now have access to the District’s vast transportation network. This new evening bus service will provide transportation for students that participate in after-school in-person tutoring with two scheduled pickup times between 4:45 and 6:00 p.m. at select school sites through the end of the school year.

Los Angeles Unified offers a variety of tutoring services for students. Focused, in-person tutoring services are designed to place students in small groups to ensure impactful academic support.
