Board Member Mónica García Supports CSU’s Decision to Delay the
Vote for Additional Quantitative Reasoning Admission Requirement
I commend and thank the Chancellor and the California State Board of Trustees for responding thoughtfully to our community of children and youth advocates. We are partners in preparing our young people for career and life, and this action by the California State University leadership will impact the lives of many of our students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
I am proud to have supported our community partners by authoring the resolution to oppose this proposal back in June 2019. Through the coalition of organizations such as Education Trust-West, Campaign for College Opportunity, InnerCity Struggle, Community Coalition, our labor partners, state partners and many others, we are able to celebrate this victory for our students and families.
Los Angeles Unified School Board Member Mónica García was first elected in 2006 and has served as Board President a record of eight terms. She continues to galvanize the Los Angeles Unified school community on a path toward 100% graduation with bold initiatives that have contributed to annual increases in high school graduation rates.
She is an effective policymaker with a focus on high-impact progressive policies such as school community strategies that increase student engagement and achievement by fully funding student needs through an equity lens.
Board Member García was raised in East Los Angeles, and is a proud graduate of University of California.
