On Retirement of Board President Dr. Richard Vladovic

Dr. Richard Vladovic is a legendary educator whose impact in schools will live on well past his retirement.

Since he walked into his first classroom at Stephen White Middle School in 1969 as a social studies teacher listening to the sweet sounds of Marvin Gaye singing “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” to his unprecedented 13 years of service on the Los Angeles Unified Board, Dr. Vladovic has served in almost every job in the school district. And set a new standard for excellence in each step along the way.

His departure will be of real consequence but perhaps the most enduring part of his legacy will live on with his students, many of whom have gone on to leadership roles, including in public education throughout school districts across the state.

Dr. Vladovic, I am grateful for your leadership, counsel and friendship.
