“We need to do more to recognize the role women have played in history and the role women will continue to play in making the world a better place,” Superintendent Austin Beutner said.
“I am in full support of celebrating Women’s History Month, while we recognize the accomplishments and progressive movements from so many women leaders,” Board President Dr. Richard Vladovic said. “To additionally educate, and increase recognition of the role of women in society and highlight the historical events lead by women.”
“Women have been leaders since the beginning of time,” Board Vice President Jackie Goldberg said. “Women’s History Month gives us another opportunity to show how we have made—and continue to make—differences in every aspect of life.”
“The accomplishments and contributions of women, especially African American and other women of color, too often go unnoticed,” Board Member Dr. George J. McKenna III said. “Women’s History Month is part of our ongoing salute to those who are the backbone of our families, our schools and our communities.”
“We are daughters, mothers, aunts, grandmothers, comadres, friends, mentors, teachers, students and so much more,” Board Member Mónica García said. “One hundred years after courageous women fought for our right to vote, we still have a ways to go to reach equity and justice for women. We honor the women of the past; we celebrate the women of the present and make way for the women of the future. Let us commit to actively working to ensure we achieve pay equity, end violence and increase representation of female leadership in all levels of government, academia, sports, arts, non-profit and private sectors. Our children deserve it.”
“I join my colleagues in celebrating the immeasurable contributions of past and present remarkable women,” Board Member Scott Schmerelson said. “Suffragists are role models for persistence, justice and equality. Their achievements in male-dominated careers will continue to be an inspiration to future generations of female students. We celebrate their example and those who carry on the spirit of these brave American women today. As a District, we will continue to support our female educators and staff who tirelessly to support our student’s success.”
“I am proud to stand behind my talented female colleagues as a co-sponsor of this resolution to celebrate the achievements of women throughout history,” Board Member Nick Melvoin said. “Hopefully, by teaching our students more about women’s suffrage and other momentous contributions, we can inspire the next generation of female leaders in our schools.”
“I am proud to be a co-sponsor of this resolution,” Board Member Kelly Gonez said. “I hope that we will take time during Women’s History Month and every month to elevate the voices of our young women, particularly our young women of color, as we push for a better school district, a better society, and full equality.”
