Statement by Superintendent Beutner and Board of Education on Local Revenue Measure
LOS ANGELES (Feb. 28, 2019) — The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously today (6-0) to place a local revenue measure on the June 4, 2019 ballot.
This local revenue measure will provide critical resources for Los Angeles local schools to lower class sizes, retain and attract quality teachers, counselors, school nurses, principals, special education assistants and important support staff, and help maintain clean and safe neighborhood schools.
The local revenue measure will levy 16 cents per square foot of building improvements annually for 12 years generating approximately $500 million annually. This measure will also exempt seniors and people with disabilities and require community oversight and an annual, independent financial audit.
Superintendent Beutner and the Board of Education released the following statement:
“The action today by the Board of Education is an important step to provide additional, much needed funding for public education. We will work together with all stakeholders throughout Los Angeles to explain how these funds will be used to serve students. We look forward to working with our entire community to make sure every child gets a great education.”
