Los Angeles, CA (May 2, 2023) – Los Angeles Unified today unveiled its new LAUSD Mobile App 3.0 – a one-stop mobile application and web portal for families and educators that includes a new resource menu featuring Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) accessibility and real-time information on student attendance, bus routes, Individualized Educational Plans and more. Milestones also include significant upgrades to the Parent Portal web access, establishing strong relationships with families through school workshops, programming and the recruitment of over 12,000 parent volunteers across the District.
“We continue to develop resources and activities to empower our parents with quick, easy and secure access to a variety of online tools in the palm of their hands,” Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said. “I am so grateful to all of our parents and families for their continued engagement and support. We remain committed to building families’ capacity to intentionally engage in and support student learning.”
Through the Family Academy, the District has engaged over 35,000 parents and guardians providing them with the skills, information and networking opportunities to support their children’s academic and social-emotional success.
“The most important thing a school and district can do is provide parents with offerings, resources and the most up-to-date information about their child,” Board President Jackie Goldberg said. “The LAUSD Mobile App 3.0 does exactly that. It streamlines pertinent information, so families are equipped with the power of knowledge to inform their decisions.”
“The new LAUSD Mobile App 3.0 is an extraordinary development for Los Angeles Unified that will help our families remain firmly connected to the information they need when they need it,” Board Vice President Scott M. Schmerelson said. “I know that this will make a very big difference both to our families and to the District.”
“Streamlining information and services to a central place will add value to the way we serve our families,” Board Member Dr. George J. McKenna III said.
“I'm hopeful that by providing timely communication and immediate access to resources, the LAUSD Mobile App 3.0 will assist more families in receiving the support they need to stay connected and informed,” Board Member Dr. Rocío Rivas said.
“I am glad to see the District’s continuous improvement with the latest iteration of a one-stop mobile app stemming from my first resolution in office,” Board Member Nick Melvoin said. “I will keep pushing for more innovative capabilities and improved technology to make these offerings as useful and convenient as possible for all stakeholders.”
“Los Angeles Unified continues its work to bring relevant information right to parents’ fingertips with our latest mobile app,” Board Member Kelly Gonez said. “With a focus on real-time updates, the app will be even more useful for families seeking to support their students and navigate our public education system.”
“As we aim to improve student success, it is vital to innovate our communication strategies to provide clear, timely information to our scholars, families and communities,” Board Member Tanya Ortiz Franklin said. “The new one-stop mobile application and web portal will provide fast, real-time information and resources to support each student's learning and academic success.”
