Historic Partnership Offers Dual Enrollment

Juniors and Seniors Can Earn High School Credit & Career Certification

Los Angeles –Local District Central (LDC) and the Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE) announced an unprecedented partnership to provide high school students with access to career technical education in transportation (auto industry), healthcare, and information technology.

High school juniors and seniors will continue their coursework while gaining work experience that leads to high-wage, high-skill careers.

“In adhering to the Superintendent’s 100-Day plan for the expansion of learning options, I want our families to have an abundance of skills to increase career options,” said Local District Central Superintendent Frances Baez. “Because of this historic partnership, our students will be able to jump start their careers.”

High school students in addition to obtaining an A-G high school diploma to prepare them for college, will also receive career certification. Classes will be offered either after school or on Saturdays.

At Belmont High, students can enroll in the auto technician course for careers in transportation such as diesel and hybrid vehicle mechanic. At the Roybal Learning Center, students will be trained in healthcare for jobs as medical assistants, certified nursing assistants, dental assistants, and pharmacy technician.

Students also can take courses at Eagle Rock and Jefferson high schools, to learn about information technology. Starting pay for those entry-level positions at Los Angeles Unified, for example, earn $23.09 per hour.

Joseph Stark, executive director of adult education at LA Unified said, “Partnering with Local District Central to expand access to high-quality workforce certification programs really puts the AND in college and career preparedness.”

Students can enroll online through their counselors:  For more information, follow this link:  LDC CTE Program Counselor Guide.
