Statement from the Los Angeles Unified Board of Education

Los Angeles, CA (February 8, 2022) – The Los Angeles Unified Board of Education voted today setting Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho's start date of Monday, February 14.

Superintendent Carvalho previously led Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), the nation’s fourth-largest school system, since September 2008. During Superintendent Carvalho’s tenure, M-DCPS became one of the nation’s highest-performing urban school systems, and he garnered local, state, national and international recognition, including 2018 National Urban Superintendent of the Year.

We are all very excited to welcome Superintendent Carvalho to the Los Angeles Unified School District next week.
