LOS ANGELES, October 22 – Los Angeles Unified and the Los Angeles Wildcats of the XFL today announced an ongoing community partnership between the District and LA’s newest sports franchise at a special celebration at Carson High School. The collaboration, which will include football clinics for coaches and student performance incentives, exemplifies the Wildcats’ desire to embrace the community and Los Angeles Unified’s opportunity to highlight their programming, staff and student achievers.

“We are excited to work with Los Angeles’ newest sports team, the LA Wildcats,” said Superintendent Austin Beutner. “The resources provided by the LA Wildcats including tickets, coaching clinics and a great game day experience, will help incentivize more students to come to class. We’re delighted the LA Wildcats also want to help recognize the great work done by coaches too.”

The LA Wildcats, one of the eight professional football teams in the new XFL spring football league, kick their season off in February 2020 at Dignity Health Sports Park – just down the road from Carson High School.

“Los Angeles Unified is such an important part of our community and we are proud to partner with the District to make a positive impact in our schools,” said Heather Brooks Karatz, President of the LA Wildcats.  “We look forward to extending the resources and expertise of the LA Wildcats organization, particularly our expert coaching staff who will be available during the District’s football season, and also showcasing the achievements of LA’s inspiring students, teachers and administration.”

The components of the program include football clinics led by Wildcats coaching staff for the Beyond the Bell (BTB) coaches on topics of football fundamentals and techniques. Additionally, the Wildcats football staff will host a separate clinic for high school football coaches where they will share philosophies and strategies applying their decades of experience and accomplishments. This “Coaches Coaching Coaches” program is a tentpole of the Los Angeles Unified and LA Wildcats partnership since the Wildcats’ off-season coincides with the District’s football season.

“The Los Angeles Unified Interscholastic Athletic Department is grateful to the LA Wildcats for this extraordinary opportunity for our students and coaches,” said Athletic Coordinator Trenton Cornelius. “The strategies and techniques the professional staff will share with our coaches will enhance their football knowledge and make the game safer and more competitive for all.”

Additionally, the Wildcats will be honoring Student Achievers and Teachers on game days at Dignity Health Sports Park. The Wildcats’ five home games are scheduled for February-April. To view the game schedule, click HERE.
