Los Angeles Unified Celebrates
“Summer of Learning”
Los Angeles, CA (June 17, 2025) – Los Angeles Unified is now hosting its annual Summer of Learning program with the theme of Dream, Discover, Do, at select school sites from June 17 to July 16 with robust offerings that support academic achievement, social connection, and real-world experience for students across the District.
The Summer of Learning program is designed to help students build on the progress made during the school year through core academic support, college readiness, and enrichment courses that spark curiosity and creativity. Students will have access to classes in areas such as STEM, the arts, literacy, and physical education—ensuring that learning remains engaging and meaningful throughout the summer.
“Summer is an opportunity, not a pause,” said Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho. “With our Summer of Learning, we are empowering students to explore their interests, deepen their learning, and gain valuable experiences that prepare them to be Ready for the World.”
In addition to academic courses, students can take part in expanded paid internship opportunities that provide career exploration and mentorship while earning real-world experience. Recreation and enrichment programming through the District’s Beyond the Bell Division will also offer structured social interaction and fun activities for students of all ages
Opportunities will be available for all grade groups. The UTK-7 program is designed to support core instruction, provide targeted academic intervention in small group settings, and offer in-person enrichment activities in the Arts and Sciences at all participating summer school sites. 8th graders who are incoming freshmen will get a head start on their high school experience with a credit bearing 8th grade Rising Freshman Success Class. And high school students can take credit recovery classes, locally designed enrichment courses, and stay ahead academically.
As part of its ongoing commitment to equity and access, Los Angeles Unified’s Food Services Division will operate an extensive Summer Community Base meal program, serving more than 240,000 free meals daily to children 18 and under at school and community locations. Free breakfast, lunch, and supper options will be available to ensure that no student goes hungry during the summer months.
Los Angeles Unified remains committed to ensuring all students are engaged, supported, and inspired year-round—because every student deserves access to opportunities that prepare them for a bright future.
