LAUSD & UCLA Extension College Advising Program
The A-G Intervention and Support office is excited to announce that the LAUSD/ UCLA Extension College Access Program (CAP) enrollment window will open mid-April in My PLN (keywords: College Advising Program Application and Supervisor Endorsement."
Note: The College Advising Program is a rigorous program like any other advanced degree program, such as a Masters's, Doctorate, or administrative credential. While demanding, participants have noted its value as an exemplary learning opportunity to grow professional knowledge and the ability to serve LAUSD’s diverse student population. The estimated weekly time commitment is 6–8 hours each quarter.
Background
What? The CAP is based on UCLA Extension’s College Counseling Certificate. In the LAUSD/CAP partnership, you will complete a yearlong four-course series with tuition and materials provided free to LAUSD participants. Units can be counted towards salary points. Participants should check with the HR office to learn more about the process.
Who? Any certificated middle school counselor, advisor, or credentialed teacher assigned full-time to an LAUSD elementary, middle, or high school. Substitute teachers (pool teachers and substitutes (Day to day/Long-Term, and resident) are not eligible. Staff who received a Notice of Unsatisfactory Service or “below standard” evaluation during the 2023-2024 school year are not eligible.
NOTE: If you were previously enrolled in CAP and dropped out, you must contact Janice Sykes at jxl0439@lausd.net regarding an opportunity to re-enroll.
NOTE: Per district policy, if an employee is on a Leave of Absence (LOA), they cannot do anything for and/or associated with the District because the District cannot require them to perform any work-related activities while on leave. Even if you volunteer to attend PD or otherwise, we cannot allow it because we cannot pay you or pay for you to attend because you are on an official LOA. This program falls under this rule.

Quarter Instruction Dates: January 6, 2025 - March 16, 2025 / Enrollment Window: October 7 to November 4, 2024
After submitting your application, candidates will be informed of the status of their application via email. Each new cohort will have its own application window. There is no waitlist or sign-up for future cohorts.
