Secondary Course OfferingsSecondary dance programming in LAUSD is designed to meet the needs of our many and varied dance programs in grades 6 through 12. Course offerings include both general dance courses and courses in specific dance genres. Course descriptions below, under Secondary Dance Curriculum.National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA):The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization, created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K-12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education. The NHSDA offers three levels of induction: The Junior Program for grades 6-8, The Secondary Program for grades 9-12, and The Collegiate Program for students in college or university dance programs. Establishing an NHSDA chapter in your school is one very important way that you can honor your students and help advance the field of dance education.For more information on how you can establish a chapter of the National Society for Dance Arts, please go to http://www.ndeo.org.

Secondary Dance Curriculum
Current LAUSD middle and high school dance courses are listed below. Each course addresses California State Content Standards in Dance.Please note that "F" credit is currently available for Beginning Dance Choreography/Production A/B, Beginning Ballet AB, Beginning Tap A/B, Choreographic Process SH A/B, Dance A/B, Jazz Dance SH 1A/1B and Modern Dance SH 1 A/B. "F" credit is pending UCOP approval of several other courses.

Secondary Arts Instructional Guide (AIG)The Secondary Arts Instructional Guide (AIG) in Dance lays out concepts, skills and knowledge that are key in each of the arts processes (creating, performing, responding and connecting) at the secondary level. The guide was constructed to accompany those LAUSD dance courses most frequently taught in middle and high school.
